Havana, March 26 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CCPCC) and President of Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted this Tuesday the country's potential to advance more quickly in the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In a meeting with scientists and experts, the president affirmed that the world is advancing in this field, and Cuba cannot be left behind.  "We have to do the same thing that was done with biotechnology, because the capabilities are there to place us at the forefront in a short time," he emphasized.

He urged the development of AI in all university programs, including the social sciences and also in medical sciences, where, he said, the use of this tool is advancing worldwide.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that it is necessary to extend the AI ​​results obtained in one entity or sector to others that need it, so that it can be used as a service.

Alejandro Rosete Suárez, PhD, from the Department of AI and Information Systems Infrastructure at CUJAE (Technological University), explained that last month, seven of the 12 theses defended in the School of Computer Engineering were on AI.

He asserted that Cuba has no problem with AI training and education. "It has world-class specialists; what we need to do is utilize them more," he noted.

The meeting, held via videoconference, followed up on a similar meeting held on the topic earlier this year.

Also participating in the meeting were Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa and Deputy Prime Minister Eduardo Martínez.

Among those in attendance was Susely Morfa, head of the Department of Social Sector Assistance of the Communist Party of Cuba, Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman, and several ministers, among other executives.
