Cuba reaffirms commitment to nuclear disarmament and a comprehensive and effective ban on nuclear tests

Havana, April 2 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, has reaffirmed our country's unwavering commitment to the fight for peace and the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons during a meeting with His Excellency Robert Floyd, Executive Director of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, who has been carrying out an intense work agenda in Cuba at the invitation of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment.

Díaz-Canel recognized the personal efforts of the Executive Director of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization to promote a verification system that he described as robust, robust, and effective.

During the meeting with His Excellency Robert Floyd, the Cuban president also expressed his gratitude for the contribution of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Weapons Treaty Organization (CITMA) to the training of experts to develop processes underway in the country and for other facilities to ensure access to reliable information.

The Cuban president expressed that with the visit of the senior executive of the CITMA, relations are being strengthened by strengthening ties with Cuban institutions, including centers and agencies of CITMA, the University of Havana, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Higher Institute of International Relations, as well as with our Civil Defense systems linked to early warning to address various meteorological phenomena.

His Excellency Robert Floyd, Executive Director of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, also praised Cuba's long-standing stance on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, and also addressed the current challenges facing the organization he leads internationally in this area.

Australian-born Robert Floyd is a diplomat and disarmament expert who has led the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization since 2021, with a mandate expiring in 2029. The organization was established in 1996.
