Caracas, November 11 (RHC), -–The General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) George Mavrikos praised efforts by trade unions in Cuba and Venezuela towards integration of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mavrikos, who is currently visiting Venezuela, said the world organization has long expressed its solidarity with the revolutionary process taking place in the South American nation and has also come down strongly against the slander campaigns in the mainstream media, aimed at discrediting the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The world trade union leader highlighted that Venezuela is taking concrete, positive steps to improve the working and living conditions of workers, who are the main protagonists and also the main beneficiaries of the profound political, social and economic transformations begun by late President Hugo Chavez 15 years ago and which President Maduro has continued to this date.

Winning justice in the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, wrongfully convicted and sentenced to long prison terms in the United States, is one of the causes defended by the World Federation of Trade Unions, an organization established in 1945 with the mission of bringing together trade unions across the world in a single international organization, much like the United Nations.
