Washington, January 15 (RHC) –- U.S. companies are ready to support new regulations announced by the White House with the aim of easing restrictions on trade with Cuba, according to U.S. media reports.

In an article published by The Hill newspaper, spokespersons with the business sector expect to see growing support in the U.S. Congress for Barack Obama's decision to change Washington's policy towards the island, as more Americans are allowed to travel to the island.

Written by journalist Lydia Wheeler, the article explains that the U.S. president is taking a historic decision by making use of his executive powers, although some transformations will have to face hurdles in Congress.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently said that the reestablishment of commercial exchange with Cuba would translate into an opportunity for U.S. farmers with a new market close to the United States.

Presidents Raul Castro and Barack Obama announced on December 17th the beginning of a process to reestablish diplomatic relations between their countries, which were broken by Washington over 50 years ago.

The U.S. president expressed his willingness to work with the Congress to eliminate the main obstacle to the normalization of bilateral relations, which is the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
