Havana, January 28 (RHC-PL) -- Renowned Cuban pianist and composer Frank Fernandez has announced a concert in the coming days, together with the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) to celebrate the return of the five anti-terrorist fighters who were imprisoned in the U.S., known as the Cuban Five.

Works by the Cuban popular piano player and composer and others by fellow Cuban and Latin American authors, are in the program of the concert, scheduled for February 1st at the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater.

Fernandez said the OSN will grant the Medal for the 50th Anniversary of the OSN to the Cuban Five, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez. These men were arrested in the U.S. in 1998 and sentenced to harsh prison sentences, for alerting Cuba of the serious terrorist threat posed by extremist groups based in south Florida.

Of them, René Gonzalez returned to the island in May 2013, after 13 years of imprisonment, while Fernando González returned to Cuba in March 2014, after serving his full sentence.

Meanwhile, Guerrero, Labañino, and Hernandez were released on December 17th, following an agreement between the Cuban and U.S. governments, part of a greater process of normalization of bilateral relations.
