Montevideo, March 2 (RHC) -– Cuban President Raul Castro and outgoing Uruguayan head of state Jose Mujica held talks in Montevideo, Uruguay, after the swearing-in ceremony for Tabaré Vázquez.

The talks were also attended by Senator Lucia Topolansky, wife of Jose Mujica. According to Prensa Latina, the two leaders exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, particularly on the historic relations of friendship between Cuba and Uruguay.

Raul Castro was awarded the key to the city of Montevideo, a gesture that the Cuban leader appreciated and said that that it has great value because Uruguayans shed their blood for the Cuban Revolution.

The Uruguayan people have always supported Cuba, even in their worst moments, said Raul Castro, who appreciated the mobilization by the Uruguay for the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, who were unjustly held for many years in U.S. prisons.
