Cuban Vice President Receives African Union Deputy

Havana, March 3 (RHC) -- Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa has held a meeting with Erastus Okundi Mwencha, African Union (AU) Commission deputy chairperson.

After highlighting the historical ties of friendship between Cuba and Africa, the leaders exchanged views on international issues, particularly on the efforts of the island to tackle the Ebola epidemics affecting the African continent.

Valdés Mesa expressed his appreciation for the recent adoption by the 24th AU Summit of a resolution urging U.S. President Barack Obama to use his executive powers to end the blockade against Cuba.

Erastus Okundi Mwencha, who is on an official visit to the island, was accompanied by Arthur Fareed, Senior Advisor and other officials.
Angel Villa Hernández, director of sub-Saharan Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other officials of that Ministry took part in the meeting on the Cuban side.
