Havana, April 21 (RHC) -- The National Electoral Commission (CEN) has begun preparations for a runoff of mid-term elections, in those districts where no candidate obtained over 50% of the votes.

During the first round, held on Sunday, nearly 12,000 candidates were elected to official posts in Municipal Assemblies of People's Powers across Cuba.

Meanwhile, some 1,164 are slated to go to a second round on April 26, CEN president, Alina Balseiro, said Monday in a press conference.

On Sunday, over 7 million Cubans went to the polls to elect their representatives in local governments, representing 88.3 percent of eligible voters.
