Cienfuegos, April 23 (RHC) -– The Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Guerrero, has been granted the distinction of Illustrious Son of the city of Cienfuegos, on occasion of the 196th anniversary of the founding of that central Cuban city.

Guerrero is one of five Cubans who were imprisoned for years in the United States for monitoring extremist groups planing terrorist actions against Cuba.

The Cuban hero welcomed the award and expressed appreciation for the support of the people of Cienfuegos in the fight for his release and that of his companions from U.S. prisons.

In addition, Guerrero received the city's Roseta Award, a decoration given by the Provincial Culture Office. He also attended a cultural gala held in his honor in Cienfuegos.
