Vermillion, May 6 (RHC) –- The University of South Dakota is offering a Health Service Administration in Cuba program for U.S. students, which will be afforded a unique opportunity to learn about the island's culture and people.

A news article on the website of the South Dakota-based KELO AM radio station announced that the first 15 students and a professor will travel to Cuba during their next winter break and visit hospitals, medical universities and communities.

“We chose Cuba because it is known around the world for its comprehensive health care system, where all residents have access to cost-effective care, and because it is a leader in providing health care to nearly a hundred developing countries,” said Professor Carole South-Winter, who teaches health care administration in the USD Beacon School of Business.

The Health Services Administration program includes the formulation and implementation of public health policies.
