United Nations, June 11 (RHC)-- At the United Nations, Cuba highlighted the national social inclusion policies for people affected by physical, mental and sensory limitations.

During a forum at the United Nations, Oscar Leon, Cuba's Alternate UN Ambassador, said the Caribbean nation shows progress in treating the disabled, despite economic constraints.

Regarding the actions in Cuba to support the disabled, Leon referred to the implementation of a strategy based on freedom, equity, social justice and inclusion. He said that there are three national plans, which have been developed since 1995.

Cuba's alternate representative to the United Nations said that the project has a medical-prophylactic, educational and socio-legal approach, in order to promote physical rehabilitation, learning, potential development and social integration of people with limitations. He also referred to the experience of Cuba, where there are more than 300 special education schools.
