Dar es Salaam, July 2 (RHC) -- A state-of-art Biolarvicides factory that promises to wipe out the deadly malaria in Tanzania is scheduled to be officially opened on Thursday in the African country, AllAfrica reports.
President Jakaya Kikwete and the visiting Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, are expected to officiate at the launch of the National Development Corporation (NDC) owned plant at Kibaha.
Construction of the factory by the Cuban firm, Entrepreneurial Group Biological and Pharmaceutical Laboratories (LABIOFAM), follows President Kikwete's state visit to Cuba in 2009, after which he assigned NDC to undertake the task.
NDC said in a statement in Dar es Salaam that the idea behind the factory was to support the president's determination to wipe out Malaria in the country. "The Biolarvicides will be sprayed into all stagnant water ponds at all residence and non residence settings to attack the life-cycle of malaria vector at the larvae stage," said NDC, expressing optimism that the factory will greatly enhance anti-malaria drive in the country.
