Washington, August 19 (RHC)-- The U.S. administration is working with Havana to sign an accord before the year's end, allowing U.S. tourists to travel to Cuba on commercial flights, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The agreement would allow U.S. airline companies to operate regular flights between the two countries as of December this year, the daily reported by citing U.S. officials.

A draft bill is currently pending in the U.S. Senate to lift the Cuba-travel ban, while a more ambitious step would put an end to the over-50-year U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island.

At present, U.S. citizens who come to Cuba under the authorized reasons, such as family or business visits, travel on charter flights.

The Wall Street Journal said that the U.S. administration and the airline companies have joined efforts to resume air service to Cuba and cited an official as saying that they are committed to that end as there is good will on both sides.
