Montevideo, August 24 (Sputnik-RHC) — Relations between Russia and Cuba are based on a true feeling of friendship, Cuban Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mercedes Martinez Valdez said in a written interview with RIA Novosti.

These relations are based on a genuine feeling of friendship, Martinez Valdez stressed, adding that speculations about a possible deterioration of relations between Havana and Moscow against the backdrop of warming relations between Cuba and the United States are groundless.

"I am sure that this is only speculation, showing ignorance of the historical traditions of Cuban philosophy and approach," Martinez Valdez said.

Mercedes Martinez stated that energy, biotechnology, tourism, industry and transportation are among the most likely areas for an increase in economic and trade cooperation between Moscow and Havana.
