Major General Carlos Fernández Gondín has devoted most of his life to the Cuban revolutionary movement, ever since he joined the Rebel Army on the Sierra Maestra Mountains. After the triumph of the Revolution in January 1959, he held different posts within the Revolutionary Armed Forces and currently at the Interior Ministry.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Díaz-Argüelles was an outstanding member of the Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil (Student Revolutionary Directorate) -- a Cuban student group, which in the 1950s played a key role in the revolutionary struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. The late brigadier general also brilliantly commanded the Cuban military mission in Angola. He was killed in combat on December 11th, 1975, exactly one month after the proclamation of Angola's independence.

Brigadier General Víctor Schueg Colás was an active member of the July 26th Movement and of the Rebel Army's Second Front "Frank País". He fulfilled several missions as an internationalist combatant in Tanzania and Congo. He also served as Chief of Staff of the Cuban Military Mission in Angola. He died on February 9th, 1998.
