Guayaquil, September 25 (RHC)-- Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa said that during his administration, the number of medical consultations increased from 16 million to 36 million thanks to the collaboration of Cuba.
President Correa made the statement during the inauguration of out-patient facilities the Abel Ponton Hospital in Guayaquil.
Cuba began to offer Ecuador medical cooperation in 2012 with 75 health workers. At present, the number of medical specialists in Ecuador has increased to 816 under 11 bilateral accords.
The Cuban doctors have given 85,000 consultations since 2014. More than 200 doctors, specialized in community and family medicine, are currently working in remote Ecuadorian areas where they treat over 922,000 citizens.
