Quito, October 2 (RHC)-- The six Cuban heroes who are visiting Ecuador at the invitation of President Rafael Correa travelled today to the Ecuadorian Amazon region to ascertain the pollution in the region by U.S. oil company Chevron.

Colonel Orlando Cardoso, who was confined in a jail in Somalia for almost 11 years, and anti-terrorist fighters Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, who suffered unjust imprisonment in the United States, visited the Aguarico Cuatro where Texaco, operated a subsidiary of the transnational.
According to the Ecuadorian government, between the years 1960 and 1990, the U.S. company spilled nearly 17 million gallons of oil into the Amazon ecosystem and dumped toxic waste in soils and rivers of the region.

The Five, as they are known internationally, along with Colonel Cardoso, have joined a number of global personalities involved in the international campaign called “Chevron's Dirty Hand,” launched in 2013 by President Rafael Correa.
