Havana, October 30 (RHC)-- Lyes Ferroukhi, Regional Technical Advisor for Biodiversity and Ecosystems of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has praised Cuba's actions in preserving the environment.

During a meeting with members of the Sabana-Camagüey Project, Ferroukhi highlighted the active participation of communities, local governments, scientific institutions and governmental organizations in the implementation of a national strategy to reduce socioeconomic and natural vulnerabilities caused by climate change.

He pointed out that the results contributed by this project financed by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) in its two decades of work can be replicated in other nations of the area that have similar problems.

Ferroukhi said he was impressed by the high professionalism of Cuban experts, who were responsible for the transfer of knowledge to all people who work in food production, care, management and use of land and coasts.

Among the achievements of the Sabana-Camaguey project we find an increase in forest cover, a decrease of pollution load, efficient use of water, application of renewable energy sources and environmental control in each of the territories involved.
