Geneva, November 11 (RHC)-- Cuba has insisted on the creation of global, sustainable capabilities to confront new outbreaks of the deadly Ebola virus.

Addressing a UN debate on the issue, Cuba's Permanent Representative in Geneva, Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, said Cuba is proud of having responded immediately to the call issued by the World Health Organization to fight Ebola in West Africa, when the Caribbean state sent more than 250 health professionals late last year.

The Cuban diplomat warned that although it is true that the worst stage of the health emergency was successfully overcome, its devastating economic, human and social impact remains essentially unchanged. She then insisted on the need to contribute fresh material and financial resources to the development of the affected countries.

She insisted though that solidarity and cooperation with those countries and people should invariably be based on strict respect for the priorities set by those African countries, their regional and subregional organizations.
