Havana, December 7 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raul Castro sent Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro a message of support following the results of Sunday's legislative elections, in which the Venezuelan opposition won a majority of votes.

In his message, Raul says he followed minute-by-minute the "extraordinary battle" waged by the Bolivarian followers and that he listened with admiration to the statement that Maduro gave after the announcement of the vote's results.

The Cuban president's message read: "I'm sure that new victories will come for the Bolivarian Revolution under your leadership. We will always stand by you."

Minutes after the irrevocable verdict announced by Venezuela's National Electoral Council (CNE), Maduro addressed the country and congratulated the people for the large turnout. And he accepted the legislative vote's results in which the opposition won by majority according to the first announcement by the CNE.

On this occasion, the leftist forces were the victims of campaigns against the country, such as an economic war, the stockpiling of products and the speculation of prices of basic products, which hurt the people, said Maduro.

The Bolivarian Revolution will maintain a high morale and will make considerations to become more effective, said the President and added that the right-wing wants to return neo-liberalism to Venezuela, while it is the duty of the Bolivarian followers to honorably wage that war to protect the people.

Over 19 million 490,000 Venezuelans were called to vote on Sunday to elect 167 parliament deputies. The opposition Mesa de la Unidad Democractica (MUD) won 99 nominal candidates, while the Venezuelan United Socialist Party achieved 46 nominal representatives, according to partial results announced with nearly 96 percent of the votes counted.
