Santiago de Chile, January 5 (RHC)--Chilean Senator Alejandro Navarro has proposed the country´s Heath Ministry to implement a More Doctors program, similar to that of Brazil, with a Cuban medical mission to relieve the lack of health services in his country.

According to El Economista de Chile newspaper, the senator met with Health Minister Carmen Castillo to find a solution to the deficit of doctors in Chile.

Quoted by the publication, Senator Navarro commented that 83 days have gone by since he and 225 Chilean mayors from around the country gave the health minister a proposal to implement the More Doctor Program, with the arrival there of a Cuban medical mission that would relieve the long lists of Chileans waiting for surgeries and medical attention.

The senator said that the initiative would have a temporary character while a local plan to train specialists releases 4,000 medical doctors and specialists expected to be formed in the 2015-2018 period.

The proposal has been backed by 257 mayors, representing 75 percent of all the mayors in Chile.
