Havana, January 23 (RHC)-- A U.S. delegation led by ambassador Daniel A. Sepulveda, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy wound up a visit to Cuba on Friday.

The US delegation also included the president of the Federal Communications Commission Thomas Wheeler, officials from the US departments of State, Commerce and The Treasury, along with representatives of telecommunications companies, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reported on its website.

During their three-day stay in Cuba, the visitors met with deputy Communications minister Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella and officials with the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and with representatives of the communications sector and academics linked to the sector.

The meeting, which followed up on a previous encounter in March 2015, took place in a positive environment as both sides exchanged views on the use of the Internet for social and economic development.

The meeting also addressed the impact of the US blockade of Cuba on the telecommunications sector, including the hurdles that Cuba faces to access US internet sites, which are considered as crucial for scientific, technical and economic development. Also on the table were the limitations posed by new regulations adopted by the US administration in the sector.

The US delegation also visited the cyber clubs, the Jose Antonio Echeverria Higher Polytechnic Institute and the University of Information Technologies, where the visitors met students and professors.
