With the opening next week in Havana of the Tenth Ordinary Period of sessions of the National Assembly of People's Power in its Ninth Legislature, a year of intense and fruitful legislative work comes to an end, in which transcendental issues for Cuba's socioeconomic development were debated.

With the opening next week in Havana of the Tenth Ordinary Period of sessions of the National Assembly of People's Power in its Ninth Legislature, a year of intense and fruitful legislative work comes to an end, in which transcendental issues for Cuba's socioeconomic development were debated.
Thus, the 75 measures presented by the government for economic recovery were supported during the legislative meeting last July, in the face of a complex scenario marked by the world crisis caused by COVID 19 and the reinforcement of the U.S. blockade.
These actions, described as necessary by Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel, are aimed at increasing foreign currency income and increasing and diversifying exports.
Likewise, several laws have been approved so far to improve the functioning of society and strengthen the rights and guarantees of citizens, recognized by the Constitution, approved in 2019.
Among these are the Law of Protection of Constitutional Rights and the Criminal Code, which provides for increased penalties for acts related to economic and administrative corruption.
In addition, the Parliament approved the norms of Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security and the Natural Resources and Environment System.
Of great importance was the approval last July by the legislative body of the new Family Code, which is modern, inclusive and the result of a broad debate at the national level, and which was endorsed by the people at the polls last September.
Also as part of their work, the deputies visited various territories, where in addition to checking the actions being undertaken for their progress, they also verified the attention given to the proposals and petitions of the population.
Next week's sessions will also be intense, since they include bills, account renderings and important information from some agencies, informed Homero Acosta, Secretary of the Council of State and of the National Assembly of People's Power.
There will be several days of debates, preceded as usual by the work in Commissions, with the analysis and updating of issues of impact on the daily life of the citizens, whose interests are represented by the deputies, elected by the free, secret and direct vote of the voters.
