Havana Model United Nations

For almost three decades, the Havana Model United Nations (HAVMUN), has been an enriching experience and a source of knowledge for students and professors at the University of Havana and other centers of higher education in Cuba.

This academic event, which concluded its twenty-eighth edition at the University, connects its participants with international law, the system of international relations and UN agencies.

On this occasion, issues such as technology, environment and development were discussed in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The forum simulates the debates and discussions of the bodies that make up the UN system, with students representing different countries.

The young people prepare intensively. They study the characteristics, history, political situation, socio-economic development and culture, among other aspects, of the states they will represent in the debates.

During the first days, discussions are held in working committees, in a format similar to that of the international body, while the plenary sessions are held on the last days.

HAVMUN raises awareness about issues that affect the world today from what its organizers describe as an academic and transformative perspective.

The event has consolidated and gained prestige on a national and international level, attracting students from other latitudes.

HAVMUN contributes to the professional training of the participants, enabling them to acquire skills and knowledge on various aspects of the international situation, a matter of concern to all.

It is undoubtedly a necessary space to further connect the new generations to current issues, to listen to their opinions and suggestions on possible actions to be developed, and thus to move forward together towards a better world.
