Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, celebrated along with Cuban collaborators offering their services there, the advent of the new year and the 61st Anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution.
Gonsalves commended Cuba’s collaboration with his country. He took the opportunity to thank Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, Army General Raul, President Miguel Diaz-Canel and the entire Cuban people for their permanent solidarity with Saint Vincent and with all other Caribbean states.
He pointed to what he called the indestructible bonds of friendship between both peoples and governments and wished the Cuban people a year full of collective, personal and family successes.
Cuban ambassador to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines José Manuel Leyva thanked the Prime Minister Gonsalves for celebrating with them a new anniversary of the Revolution.
Ambassador Leyva underscored the work carried out by Cuban health professionals and engineers in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 2019 and reiterated Cuba’s will to continue deepening the ties of brotherhood and collaboration between our two nations.
Several Cuban collaborators reiterated the commitment to continue offering their supportive help to the brother people of San Vicente and thanked the expressions of gratitude and love they receive every day.
Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Susil Premajayanta, State Minister and Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, attended the celebration party at the Cuban Embassy to that country on the 61st anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
Speaking at the activity on behalf of the government and the Cuban Solidarity Movement, State Minister Premajayanta stressed the historical ties of friendship between the two countries and rejected the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
For her part, Cuban ambassador Juana Elena Ramos briefed those present on the measures adopted by the U.S. government in 2019 to try to asphyxiate the Cuban economy. She mentioned, for instance, the flight ban and the persecution of ships carrying fuel to Cuba, and the campaign against the Caribbean island's medical collaboration with other world nations, among other aggressions in Trump’s anti-Cuba crusade.
The Cuban ambassador stated that in spite of this, Cuba has made progress on several economic fields and thanked Sri Lanka for its support to the Cuban resolution against the blockade, which was approved again at the UN General Assembly.
The meeting was also attended by the Sri Lankan delegation that attended the Regional Conference on Solidarity with Cuba held in Nepal last July, as well as other members of parliament and the cabinet, leaders of several political parties, members of Friendship Associations and Graduates in Cuba, as well as Cubans residing in that country.
