Havana, August 29 (RHC) – The curtains of Havana’s Grand Theater ‘Alicia Alonso’ will again go up on Thursday, September 12, with the world ballet classic ‘Giselle’, following a few months of repair. The Cuban National Ballet company will have performances September 12th through 14th at 8 p.m. and the 15th at 5 p.m. The leading roles are scheduled to be assumed by the company’s Deputy Artistic Director and prima ballerina, Viengsay Valdés, as well as premier dancers, Anette Delgado, Sadaise Arencibia, Grettel Morejón, Dani Hernández, Rafael Quenedit and Raúl Abreu.

‘Giselle’, choreographed by ballet legend and company director, Alicia Alonso, after Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, is inspired by a German legend collected by Heinrich Heine. This version has been incorporated to the repertoire of prestigious international dance companies, such Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires in Argentina; France’s Paris Opera Ballet in 1972; Mexico’s Ballet del Teatro de Bellas Artes in 1976 and the Vienna Staat Opera Ballet in 1980. Following performances in Havana, the Cuban National Ballet will travel to Mexico, where it will show the same program at the famous Mexico City National Auditorium, in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Aguascalientes.
