Havana, April 26 (RHC) --The Cuban National Dance Museum has reported that the International Theater Institute (ITI) will dedicate International Dance Day to prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso.

With the aim of celebrating in 2020 the centenary of the birth of the legendary artist, ITI UNESCO Secretariat announced that the entity's newsletter corresponding to World Dance Day will celebrate the life and work of Alonso and a link to a web page specially created to honor her will appear on it. The online website provides data on her career as a dancer and choreographer, as well as presenting a photo gallery of her most famous performances along with personalities with whom she shared throughout her life.

The anthology’s production has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the Spanish delegation of ITI / UNESCO, the Alicia Alonso Dance Foundation in Madrid and the Cuban National Dance Museum. The material about the life and work of the famous dancer who died in 2019 is now available on the website https://dia-internacional-de-la-danza-alicia-alonso.jimdosite.com and it confirms that the Cuban dance legend brought dance to the supreme expression of art.

Every April 29 the world celebrates International Dance Day, instituted by UNESCO in line with the birth of the French teacher and choreographer Jean Georges Noverre. Various companies and artists from all over the world planned shows this year to commemorate Alonso's centennial, but given the worldwide emergency caused by Covid-19, it is unlikely that the events can be held the way they were scheduled.
