Pacho Alonso
Havana, September 6 (RHC)-- Cuban musicians prepare a tribute album to Cuban singer and bandleader Pascasio Alonso Fajardo --better known as Pancho Alonso—regarded as the creator of several new rhythms derived from Son Cubano during the early 1950s and 60s, including Pilón, upa-upa and simalé.
The new album, entitled ‘Homenaje a Pacho Alonso. Como te siento yo’ includes 14 tracks, new versions of emblematic tunes popularized by Pacho and inspired by the origins of these rhythms in the Caribbean nation.
Musical producer Emilio Vega said the new musical production also pays tribute to composer Enrique Bonne. Featured artists include Alain Pérez, Manolito Simonet, Orquesta Aragón, Vania Borges, Ángel Bonne and Issac Delgado, Paulo FG, Haila María Mompié, Beatriz Márquez and the National Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Recorded at Trabuco Records under Bis Music label, tht title of the album ‘Tributo a Pacho Alonso. Como te siento yo’ was chosen by Pacho Alonso’s son Panchito Alonso.
Pacho Alonso’s grandsons, young Cuban musicians Cristian and Rey were also very instrumental in realizing this project.
Titles include ‘Dame la mano’, ‘Rico Pilón’, ‘Ya tú sabes mucho de la vida’ and ‘Niebla de riachuelo.’
Pacho Alonso died in Havana, 39 years ago, on August 27, 1982, at the age of 54.
