Santiago de Cuba to host conference on African-American culture

The 20th International Conference on African and African-American Culture will take place April 12th through the 16th in eastern Santiago de Cuba.

Sponsored by the Fernando Ortiz African Culture Center, the provincial cultural office, the UNESCO Offices on Afro-Iberoamerican and Afro-Caribbean Studies attached to the University of Alcalá in Spain, Cuba’s Universidad de Oriente and the provincial government in eastern Santiago de Cuba.

The African influence on the social and racial reality in Latin America and the Caribbean will focus the academic debates in the framework of the conference, with the participation of specialists, scholars from our region and beyond.

Musicians, health professionals, filmmakers, dancers, choreographers, religious leaders and will participate in workshops and a medical symposium.

The 20th International Conference on African and African-American Culture will develop as a hybrid event with a program that includes in-person and virtual activities alike, due to Covid-19.

Issues for discussion include gender, race, ethnicity, identity, linguistics, religion, fine arts, audiovisuals, theatre, dance, as well as the experience of Cuban health professionals, working in African countries.
