The Philadelphia Film Festival in the United States announced for its 31st edition the presence of 130 films from 40 countries, including world and national premieres that reflect contemporary times.

Washington, October 5 (RHC)-- The Philadelphia Film Festival in the United States announced for its 31st edition the presence of 130 films from 40 countries, including world and national premieres that reflect contemporary times.

According to the artistic director of the Philadelphia Film Society, Michael Lerman, the program not only evidences the quality of the films selected, but also reflects new, audacious, diverse and rebellious stories.

The event, scheduled for October 19-30 at the Philadelphia Film Center, will open with the Irish feature film The Banshees of Inisherin, directed by Martin McDonagh, which centers its plot on the lives of two friends played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.

Meanwhile, the closing day will feature Laura Poitras' documentary, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, linked to the artistic career of photographer Nan Goldin and her fight for the downfall of the Sackler family, responsible for the deadly opioid epidemic in the United States.

The event, which will also take over the PFS Bourse Theatre and PFS East, includes screenings of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, directed by Rian Johnson; Noah Baumbach's White Noise, starring Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig; and Armageddon Time, starring Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong and Anthony Hopkins.

The lineup includes Sam Mendes' Empire of Light starring Olivia Coleman and Roger Deakins' photographic direction, as well as Chinonye Chukwu's historical drama Till and Elegance Bratton's debut feature The Inspection.

The organizers of the event are enthusiastic about the current call for entries because, in their opinion, they are presenting one of the largest and most attractive programs in its history, which "further solidifies the strength of today's cinema" and confirms the quality of the film festival.
