Havana, May 23 (RHC)-- The remarkable synergy of the Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba with French culture was exalted by Pascal Perron, director of the Alliance of that European nation in the eastern city when announcing the start of a week of French cinema in our country.

The official thanked the local support received for the initiative and referred in particular to the Dranguet House, a cultural center dedicated to the coffee heritage whose director, Yaumara López, has collaborated in the efforts of the French entity.

Perron referred to the links established through the safeguarding and promotion of the archeological landscape of the old French coffee plantations scattered in the southeast, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Likewise, the director of the Alliance Française in the city praised the work of the Montaigne-Montesquieu Chair of Franco-Cuban and Caribbean Studies, which in coordination with the Art History Department of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of the East joins the noble intention.

The contributions of Dr. Maria Elena Orozco, professor emeritus and expert in French-Cuban and Caribbean culture, and the French doctor Jean Lamore, both professors at the University of Bordeaux, stand out in this decades-long trajectory.

As part of the Thursday program of the Chair, Professor María Teresa Fleitas will give a lecture on the French influence on Santiago sculptors Mimín Bacardí and Rodolfo Hernández Giro.
