Havana, November 3 (RHC) --The Union of Cuban Journalists -UPEC-, presented on Thursday the Central Report on the work carried out in the last five years and the work projections until 2028, in the context of the XI Congress of the organization.

Gathered at the Havana Convention Palace under the motto Yes changes, revolutionary changes, the 270 delegates from all over the country learned details about the process of transformations underway to adapt UPEC to the challenges of the 21st century, amid challenges of different signs and nature.

Faced with the complex economic situation, aggravated by the intensification of U.S. hostility, and the intense media siege against the Cuban Revolution, the organization strengthened its social and professional responsibility, and promotes ways to contribute more effectively to the development of the nation.

With this purpose, it worked on strategic axes such as improvement, socialization of knowledge and good national and international practices, changes in economic management models and the defense of the ethical dimension of the journalistic profession.

Among the work projections for 2023-2028, UPEC plans to contribute to the application of the Social Communication Law, approved in May of this year, to advance towards the extension of digital culture and to sponsor research and projects that allow scientific evaluation of problems that affect professionals.

It also contemplates proposing solutions and strengthening relations with organizations, research centers and professionals from around the world, among other strategies.

On Thursday, the Honorary President of the Union of Cuban Journalists, Tubal Páez, presented the book Anatomías del periodismo cubano (Anatomies of Cuban Journalism), by his colleague Flor de Paz.

The text gathers the professional experiences of vital colleagues from different generations, distinguished with the José Martí Award, the highest award granted by the UPEC for life work.

The XI Congress of the journalistic guild will conclude tomorrow with the disclosure of the results of the election of the presidency of the organization for the period 2023-2028. (Source: Prensa Latina).
