Challenges for Latin American and Caribbean animation at Cuban forum 

 

 Havana, Dec 10 (RHC)-- The Juan Padrón in Memoriam Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum is being held its sessions in Havana as one of the important proposals of the 44th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

 

Hosted at the Animation Studios of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), the event will be in charge of advising selected projects in development and also includes lectures, conferences, audiovisual screenings and other activities on this specialty.

 

The programs selected in the industry sector of the Havana contest are "El mundo después", by Claudia Marcela Ruiz; and "Mi viejo tiene tres sombras", by Gabriela Clar; both from Argentina.

 

Cuba is represented by "La Noria", by Leandro de la Rosa; and Colombia is represented by "Eternamente Juana", by Jackeline Gamba; and "Xue & la semilla del sol", by Gustavo Velázquez; according to Icaic.

 

Brazil is represented by the projects "Check Mates", by Ana Clermann Cler; and "Lodo", by Joseph Specker; while Chile is represented by Pirigüín, by Carlos Ulisse Luz.

 

In the Feature Film category, the Brazilian projects "The March of the Sunflowers", by Erick Ricco; and "Matrioshkas", by Eleonora Loner, were selected, according to the source.

 

In this section, from Cuba is "Chimbe al rescate", by Vladimir García; there is also "The Darkland", a proposal by Mexican Luis Andrés Ramírez; and from Chile comes "Cincuenta años de distancia", by Álvaro Rozas.

 

In the Series category, the projects "Aprendices", by Argentine Isabel Macías; and "Los Trillizos y la Hermanita", by Brazilian Alexandre Silva, will receive advisory services.

 

The forum has as its priority to generate spaces for reflection and learning, as well as to foster cooperation ties among the different studios and specialists of the audiovisual industry in the region.

Juan Padrón, a renowned cartoonist, illustrator, cartoonist, cartoonist and scriptwriter

t is named after the late Cuban Juan Padrón, a renowned cartoonist, illustrator, cartoonist, cartoonist and scriptwriter, winner of the National Humor Award (2004) and the National Film Award (2008). In 1985, the Cuban cartoonist began a collaboration with the Argentine humorist Quino (Joaquín Lavado), creator of the popular character Mafalda, and as a result of this relationship, the Quinoscopios series was born. In his career, he participated as a juror or with his works in numerous festivals around the world.

 

He was a professor at the Universidad de las Artes and gave lectures and courses on animation in European cities and workshops on storyboarding in several Latin American countries.
