Cornell University Wind Symphony Orchestra, USA

Havana, Jan 15 (RHC) The Cornell University Wind Symphony in the United States gave a special concert at the Sauto Theatre, a national monument in the province of Matanzas.

According to the director of the Cornell Symphony, James Spinazzola, who is in Matanzas for the first time, playing music inspired by Cuba in the prestigious Sauto Theatre gave him a feeling of fortune and he asserted that from now on everything can get better in every performance they give.

In the concert, performed by young American university students from the Cornell University and under the name of the Barbara & Richard T. Silver Wind Symphony, pieces such as George Gershwin's Cuban Overture and the prologue of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story were played.

Igor Corcuera, chief conductor of the Cuban National Concert Band and special guest at the performance, said that this type of exchange between artists in Cuba brings together musicians such as Los muñequitos de Matanzas and danzón orchestras, and has been planned for several months with a very fruitful rehearsal and assembly process.

As the opening of the Cornell concert, students from the Matanzas conservatory served as hosts to show the audience their musical work.

Promoting musical exchange between Cuba and the United States through the work of orchestras from both territories helps to strengthen the artistic performance of young and experienced musicians and is the objective of this type of presentation (Source: Prensa Latina).
