New books by Jose Marti Publishing House to be launched at Saturday of Books

The traditional Saturday of Books in Old Havana’s Arms Square Ironwood Street will launch two books published by the Jose Marti Publishing House.

The volumes include Cien mujeres célebres en La Habana (One Hundred Outstanding Women in Havana) by Leonardo Depestre, and La isla del buen humor. Crónicas costumbristas cubanas (The Island of Good Humor. Traditional Cuban Chronicles) by Orlando Carrió. In Cien mujeres célebres en La Habana, Leonardo Depestre briefs readers on one hundred women who have visited the Cuban capital throughout time, including French singer Edith Piaf, Mexican actress María Félix, Argentine filmmaker María Luisa Bemberg, Chilean writer Isabel Allende and Soviet cosmonaut  Valentina Tereshkova.  

Journalist, editor and linguist Leonardo Depestre is the author of works, such as Cien famosos en La Habana (One Hundred Celebrities in Havana), and Habaneros famosos de ayer y de hoy (Famous Havana Residents of Yesterday and Today). El cañonazo habanero de las nueve de la noche (The Nine O’clock Cannon Shot, el Brillante del Capitolio (The Capitol’s Diamond) and the Hurricane of 1926 are some of the issues dealt with by Orlando Carrió in La isla del buen humor. Crónicas costumbristas cubanas (The Island of Good Humor. Traditional Cuban Chronicles), a book that rigorously deal with history and anecdotes
