Rain forces Cuba to suspend under-23 Baseball World Cup debut

Havana, September 24 (RHC)-- Rain forced the suspension of the Cuba-Dominican Republic clash of the first date of the U-23 Baseball World Cup, so the Cubans will debut this Friday against host Mexico.

A torrential downpour prevented the game from starting and then it was not possible to condition the field of the Yaquis de Obregón stadium, so the game will be played on the 28th, designated as a rest day.

The Cuban team will debut this Friday against the current champion Mexico and the management of the team announced as starter the right-hander Bryan Chi, with experience in the Pre-Olympic in Florida.

On the first day of the tournament, the Colombian team debuted with a 7-1 victory against Panama in group B, supported by the work of Elkin Enrique Alcalá.

The right-hander worked seven innings, allowed one clean run and four hits, struck out five and did not give away any tickets.

On offense, right fielder Jesús Adalberto Marriaga batted 3-2.

In key A, based in Ciudad Obregón, the Chinese Taipei squad blanked Germany 7-0 to achieve its first success, supported by the work of three pitchers.
