Havana, October 10 (RHC)-- The race for October 10th is taking place this Sunday throughout Cuba as a tribute to the start of the country's War of Independence against Spanish colonialism, on the same date in 1868.
Convened by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and with the technical support of the Marabana/Maracuba Project, the event is being held virtually and with the well-known regulations in force due to COVID-19.
Carlos Gattorno, director of the aforementioned project, told the Cuban News Agency via telephone that this is the 21st edition of the virtual races, since the first cases of the pandemic were detected in the country in March 2020.
He added that as is traditional, this Sunday's event also salutes World Food Day, which is celebrated on October 16 every year, proclaimed in 1979 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The race for October 10, which is sponsored by FAO, began and 8 a.m. and will end at 6 p.m. local time.
