Havana, October 15 (RHCO/JIT) - Kayakers Reinier Carrera and Camila Cuello will compete in the 1st Junior Pan American Games, from November 25 to December 5 in the Colombian city of Cali.
Both were at the Pan American Games in Lima 2019, where Carrera won a silver medal in the K4 to 500 meters along with his teammates, only surpassed by the golden Argentine boat.
"It is very good news for the kayak and canoe family. Reinier and Camila are preparing with coaches Yaidel Coffinei and José Antonio Garrido León," Alejandro Hamze, Cuba's kayak-canoe commissioner, told JIT.
Carrera will compete in the K1 at 200 meters and 1 000 and Camila will compete in 200 and 500," confirmed Alejandro Hamze, president of the Cuban canoeing federation.
Reinier and Camila thus join Katherine Nuevo and Yarisleidis Cirilo, silver medalists in the C2 at the world canoeing championship in Copenhagen, Denmark last September, a milestone for Cuban sport, and world youth champion José Ramón Pelier.
Katherine and Yarisleidis will be in the C2 500 meters and the latter will repeat in the C1 200 meters, while Pelier will seek a medal in the C1 1,000 meters, confirmed Hamze.
More than 3,800 athletes under 23 years of age, in 39 disciplines, will meet in the Cali-Valley lid, in their eagerness to reach the main events of the next cycle: the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023 and the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
