Havana, June 7 (RHC)-- The Australian and United Arab Emirates soccer teams will clash today in the Asian playoff with the aim of keeping alive their dream of qualifying for the upcoming World Cup.

The duel, scheduled to take place at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in the Qatari city of Al Rayyan, will give the winner the chance to play against Peru for one of the two remaining tickets to the World Cup.

The UAE team, coached by Argentine coach Rodolfo Martin Arruabarrena, has only one World Cup appearance to its name, at Italy 1990.

The Australians, on the other hand, have been to the world's premier soccer tournament five times, and even advanced to the round of 16 at Germany 2006.

The two teams have not met since 2019, when the Emiratis won one goal to nil in the Asian Cup.

The winners will have a final test next Monday in Doha against Peru, to certify their passage to Qatar-2022, which will take place from November 21 to December 18.

Apart from this place, there is still pending the one between Costa Rica and New Zealand on the 14th to complete the 32 teams of the World Cup.
