Cuba will attend the First Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe 2022 with a delegation of 58 athletes, said the director of high performance of Inder, Jose Antonio Miranda.

Havana, June 17 (JIT) - Cuba will attend the First Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe 2022 with a delegation of 58 athletes, said the director of high performance of Inder, Jose Antonio Miranda.

In a meeting with specialized journalists, Miranda reiterated that in the event, scheduled from June 29 to July 3, the main objective is still to evaluate the island's sports reserve for the Olympic cycles of 2028 and 2032.

However, he did not rule out the follow-up of possible participants for the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, and the continental multisport games of Santiago 2023.

"We grew in several sports, such as swimming and athletics, because some nations declined to attend and some of those quotas were granted to us", highlighted the strategist.

In the Assembly Hall of the Havana Sports City Coliseum, the executive updated that there will be 19 participants in athletics, as well as 11 in swimming, 10 in futsal, 8 in cycling, 6 in judo and 4 in 3x3 basketball.

He added that all the provinces of the country and 30 municipalities are represented, and that the average age of the athletic delegation is 19 years old.

By the way, of the 58 Cuban athletes, 43.1 percent (25) participated in the I Pan American Junior Games Cali 2021, of which 11 were medalists (5-3-3).
