Inauguration of the Guadeloupe-2022 Games

Basse-Terre, June 30 (JIT) - The First Caribbean Games of Guadeloupe 2022 were officially inaugurated on Wednesday night, with the ceremony held at the Renè Serge Navajoth stadium.

The delegations of the 29 countries participating in the event paraded under the rain, with the Cuban delegation being one of the most numerous and cheered by the audience.

Judoist Omar Cruz and hurdler Greysis Robles carried the Cuban flag and proudly paraded it around the track, followed by the rest of the 58 athletes of the delegation of the largest of the Antilles.

After the parade, those present enjoyed a cultural artistic show full of folklore and symbolism, followed by the speeches of Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who sent a video with his congratulations on the Games; and Brian Lewis, president of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (Canoc), who officially opened the event.

Laura Flessel-Colovic, multi-Olympic and world champion in the epee, showed the queen conch shell that serves as the torch for these Games.

The colorful and joyful ceremony was attended by Neven Ilic, president of Panam Sports, and Luis Mejía, head of Centro Caribe Sports.
