Havana, July 10 (RHC)-- Cuban judoka Idalis Ortiz and Ivan Silva won silver and bronze medals on Sunday at the closing of the Grand Prix in Budapest, Hungary, after three days of action in the Laszlo Papp Arena with the presence of 406 athletes from 61 countries.

The International Federation website www.ijf.org, reports that Ortiz lost by Ippon in the final of the over 78 kilograms (kg) against the Japanese Wakaba Tomita, while Silva (90 kg) overcame Ippon to the Brazilian Rafael Mecedo, in the dispute for the bronze metal.

Ortiz advanced to the final with victories over Serbia's Milica Zabic, Marit Kamps of the Netherlands and China's Xin Su in the semifinals.

For his part, Silva defeated Bosnian Toni Miletic and Spaniard Tristani Mosakhlishvili, but lost to Japan's Sanshiro Murao, who sent him to the repechage, a stage in which he defeated American John Jayne.

The other Cubans in action today were Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg), who with one success and two setbacks finished seventh, and Andy Granda (+100 kg) who fell in his debut.

With those results, Cuba concluded in tenth place, with one silver and two bronze, as previously Maylín del Toro (63 kg) got bronze, and Arnaes Odelín (57 kg) and Magdiel Estrada (73 kg) finished in the fifth places -discussed bronze-.

Japan (8-0-1) led the medal count, followed by Italy (1-2-1), Brazil (1-1-1), Azerbaijan (1-1-1), France (1-0-1), Hungary (1-0-1) and Belgium (1-0-0), the seven nations with at least one title.

So far, Silva is Cuba's best ranked player in the world ranking, in seventh place, followed by Ortiz (14th), Granda (12th), Antomarchi (25th), Odelín (27th), del Toro (32nd), Estrada (40th) and Porte (69th), pending the update of the list.

This year they also plan to compete in the Grand Prix of Croatia, from July 15 to 17, and the World Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from October 6 to 13.
