The Cuban women's water polo team lost in a dramatic 7-8 goal match to its Mexican counterpart in the title match of the XXXIV Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championship (CCCAN), hosted by Barbados.

Havana, July 27 (JIT) - The Cuban women's water polo team lost in a dramatic 7-8 goal match to its Mexican counterpart in the title match of the XXXIV Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championship (CCCAN), hosted by Barbados.

These teams tied at 15 goals in their first match and in the second the Antilleans came out on top 11-10.

"The results of the games in the round-robin phase announced that the discussion for the gold was going to be tough and it really happened that way," Domingo Buckeridge Sierra, head of the Cuban delegation in the competition, told JIT.

Madonni Chávez, with four goals, led the offense of the defeated team, coached by Miguel Artires.

With these goals, Chávez should appear among the leading scorers of the competition, together with her fellow Cuban Aliannis Ramírez.

MEN WIN BRONZE

The squad directed by Mario Bermudez won the bronze after defeating Trinidad and Tobago 18-7, also in the aquatic center of Brigetown, the Barbadian capital.

Pedro Ponsa with seven goals and Remmy de Armas with four were the main scorers of the team. They should be among the top scorers of the tournament.

Mexico and Puerto Rico were playing for the gold in a match in which Cuba's teams qualified for the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.
