Cuba closes with two titles and six medals in total at NACAC track and field championships

Havana, August 22 (RHC)-- Cuba said goodbye to the North, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championship (NACAC) held in Bahamas with six medals, including two gold, one silver and three bronze.

The best harvest took place in the farewell, when the island's delegation - finally 27 athletes - won a title and two bronze medals.

At the farewell ceremony, Eduardo Nápoles climbed the podium in the pole vault, Mario Díaz in the discus throw and Davisleydis Velazco in the triple jump.

The only champion of the day was Napoles in the pole vault, with a record of 5.25, enough to win in an event with only four competitors, among them the American Luke Winder, silver with only 5.05.

Meanwhile, Mario Diaz won bronze in the discus with a best throw of 62.13, behind Jamaican Traves Smikle (62.89) and Fedrick Dacres (62.79).

Meanwhile, in the women's triple jump, Davisleydis Velazco also finished with bronze, with only 14.08 to escort Thea Lafond, from Dominica, champion with 14.49, and the American Keturah Orji (14.32).

In other results of the day for Cuba, the women's 4x100m relay finished fifth, in the 400m hurdles Lázaro Taylor Rodríguez finished sixth with 50.09, in the women's shot put Layselis Jiménez reached 16.10 to place sixth.

Finally, Daisnel Barbán finished 12th in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:58.61.

Cuba accumulated in this tournament two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, a discreet performance for a final delegation of 27 athletes, most of them in their fundamental competition of the season.
