Cuban referee exalted to Wrestling Hall of Fame

Havana, September 10 (RHC)-- Cuban Orestes Molina was officially exalted this Friday to the Hall of Fame of the World Wrestling Union (UWW), as a prelude to the universal championships of the Olympic styles scheduled in Belgrade, Serbia, from September 10 to 18.

According to the note issued by the UWW, Molina received the award in the referee category, as he officiated at Olympic games in four different decades (1980, 1984, 1992, 1996, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016).

He also held the position of vice president of the International Wrestling Federation (Fila) referees commission between 2013 and 2016.

The Cuban professor was also responsible for courses aimed at young people preparing to dispense justice on the mats. In Cuba he headed the rules and refereeing committee of the local federation.

From his positions, he played an important role in the international debates on the rules of this sport, which has been questioned several times for refereeing injustices and lack of spectacularity.

Molina supported, with a modest contribution, the sport of wrestling and grappling to remain in the Olympic concert.

Cuba enjoys representatives in the Hall of Fame since 2005, when the double Olympic champion in Greco-Roman style Filiberto Azcuy was exalted.

In 2016, the award went to the giant Héctor Milián, gold medalist in Barcelona 1992, and in 2018 to professor Gustavo Rollé in the category of leaders.
