Cuban shooters set their sights on Pan American Championship

Havana, November 4 (ACN) -- With their sights set on the Pan American Shooting Championship to be held in Lima, Peru, from November 5th to the 14th, Cubans are already fine-tuning their marksmanship for this important event.

Rafael Guerra, president of the Cuban Shooting Federation, declared that the delegation is already in Peruvian territory training for a few days to achieve the proposed objectives, which would be to achieve all the places for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.

In declarations to the Cuban News Agency, Guerra said that another aspiration will be to get a ticket to the summer event in Paris 2024, and if it could be more than one, so much the better, he said.

Regarding the qualification for the five rings in the French capital, he added that only one place is granted to the winners of each of the modalities, so it is more complicated, but not impossible to get, he stressed.

He said that the preparation of the Cuban shooters has been going on with the same lack of ammunition of previous years, but that does not discourage them and they will go to the competition in search of the best results, he emphasized.

Guerra said that for the multisport event in Chile will be awarded around 20 places for each of the events, although he can not yet give an exact figure.

Cuba will attend the continental event in Peru with 16 athletes, led by Leuris Pupo, London 2012 Olympic champion and silver medalist in Tokyo 2020.

Pupo will compete in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol, along with his teammate Jorge Felix Alvarez, winner of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

Other title winners in the Peruvian capital three years ago, such as Jorge Grau and Dianelys Pérez, will also represent the island in that tournament.
