Havana, November 12 (ACN) - Cubans Jorge Felix Alvarez, Alejandro Delgado and Leuris Pupo will seek today to advance to the final of the 25-meter (m) rapid fire pistol at the Pan American Shooting Sport Championship in Lima, Peru, until tomorrow, Sunday.

Alvarez, bronze medalist at the World Cup in Munich, Germany, in 2018, led this Friday the first qualifying phase of that event and will try to repeat what happened three years ago in the continental multisport event, precisely in the Peruvian capital, where he won the title.

On the opening day of this specialty, the Cuban gunman accumulated 292 points in the three series of shots (96-99-97), to complete a good performance.

His teammate Alejandro Delgado (289/96-97-96), with a great performance, followed him in that first round, and double Olympic medalist Leuris Pupo (286/98-97-91) finished sixth, according to the official website of the International Federation of that sport.

With this performance, the three representatives of the island will have more options to be included among the eight finalists, when the second stage in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol is disputed this Saturday.

Pupo, champion in the London 2012 five-hole pistol and winner of the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, in the universal competition held in Cairo, Egypt, until October 27, finished in 16th place with 580 units, while Álvarez was 48th with a score of 567.

This Friday also competed for the Caribbean nation Dianelys Perez and Lisbet Hernandez, in the rifle three positions at 50 m, placing among the top eight.

Perez and Hernandez reached the final of the top eight as owners of the fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the qualifying phase, both with 572 points.

Already in that decisive round, Perez scored 345 to ultimately finish sixth and her teammate Hernandez (294.4) finished seventh.
