Santo Domingo, January 19 (PL) - The Tigres del Licey team won the crown for the 2022-2023 season of the Dominican Baseball League by defeating the Estrellas Orientales in the grand final four games to one.
It was an emotional encounter worthy of the grand final that the Tigres were leading 1-0 until the top of the eighth, when a home run by Jeimer Candelario tied the actions and put the Estrellas to dream of staying in the battle.
However, the Blues were determined to win their 23rd League crown and in the bottom of the tenth inning they left their rivals lying on the field thanks to a golden hit by Mel Rojas Jr. that drove in Ronny Mauricio with the winning run.
A total of 22 hits in the game, 12 by the Estrellas and 10 by the felines, and there were three errors, two of them by the Tigres.
The best offensive players were Robinson Cano (5-2) and Jose Briceño (4-2) for the Estrellas and Rojas (3-2) and Dairon Blanco (4-2) for the Tigres.
The winning pitcher was Alfredo Simón (1-0) and Ronel Blanco (0-1) lost.
Thus ends a season in which the felines were undoubtedly the most outstanding and demonstrated it by winning the regular stage, then the semifinals and now the final against a team that never gave up, but undoubtedly the title went to the team that played the best.
With this victory, the Tigres del Licey also earned the right to represent the Dominican Republic in the Gran Caracas-2023 Caribbean Series.
