Sofia, April 28 (PL) - The Cuban men's handball team rested Friday at the fourth World Championship for Emerging Nations in Varna 2023 with an eye on the semifinal match against Bulgaria on Saturday.

The Antillean team, with a well-balanced and solid game in the competition, beat the United Kingdom 32-28 and Guatemala 27-17 in their qualifying matches.

For the Caribbean offense, Hanser Rodriguez stood out with 14 goals at a rate of seven per game and the performance of goalkeepers Magnol Suarez and Edmanuel Diaz, who stopped 17 of the 34 shots made on goal by the Guatemalan attack.

Their performance was so outstanding that the organizing committee chose Suárez as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the match against the Central Americans.

For his part, the president of the Cuban Federation of the discipline and its National Commissioner, Franklin Salvador Guevara, commented to Prensa Latina that the Caribbean team maintains an excellent spirit and good competitive disposition. The Cuban technical director, Jover Hernandez, said that his disciples fulfilled the planned strategy: strong defense, agility in counterattacks and offense in both halves.

So far, the other semifinal match has not yet been decided, as there is still one day left in the qualifying phase.

The universal competition for emerging nations reaches its IV edition with 12 teams as protagonists and the guarantee of a silver medal for Cuba in Georgia 2019.
