Havana, June 14 (RHC)-- Eleven athletes will represent Cuba at the 16th Special Olympics World Games, which will begin tomorrow, Thursday, in Berlin.

The event will be attended by seven thousand athletes from all over the world in 26 disciplines, several with intellectual disabilities and others with conventional disabilities.

The Cuban delegation is also made up of six teachers, a doctor and two officials from the Ministry of Education and the National Sports Institute (Inder), respectively.

According to Inder methodologist Eduardo Ramírez, the Antillean nation will be represented in four modalities: athletics, 3×3 basketball, badminton and goalball.

The games provide an opportunity to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with some type of intellectual disability in society.

They have an unparalleled social and emotional impact not only on the athletes and their families, but also on all the attendees from all over the world.

In this edition, in a sui generis way, all German cities will host a discipline to share with the protagonists and their companions.

The host cities will organize welcome parties, joint sports activities, excursions to places of interest and other social and cultural activities for all the people who will take part in this impressive event designed to unite and include wills.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday and the actions will begin on Saturday, until the closing ceremony on the 26th.

More than 190 nations will participate, including Latin America. Some 20,000 volunteers will also attend.
